At IPS we have a large Kapa Haka roopu. In year 5-8 students can choose to participate in the Performance Kapa Haka group and perform in several festivals and schoolwide events.
Kapa Haka is an effective vehicle for teaching tikanga Māori, including pōwhiri, karakia and whaikōrero. It can also teach Māori social values such as whanaungatanga, manaakitanga and aroha, along with life skills such as commitment and discipline, writing and composing, and improved memory.
We push the boundaries of traditional learning by putting tools and technology directly into our students' hands.
EPro8: Our budding engineers thrive in this design-and-build challenge. We run internal events for Year 7 & 8 and send competitive teams from Years 5–8 to regional inter-school events.
STREAM: In 2025 each class hosted some hands on activities. Showcasing Science, Technology, Robotics, Engineering, Art and Maths.
We don't just talk about the environment; we work in it.
Kaitiakitanga Programme: Partnering with the East Taranaki Environment Collective, our students become "Environment Ambassadors." They get stuck into pest control, species monitoring, and learning exactly what it takes to protect our native fauna.
Garden to Table: New this year for Years 5 & 6! Students experience the full cycle of food—growing it in our gardens, harvesting the produce, and learning the culinary skills to turn it into a meal.
Enviro groups identify projects around the school and share their care for the environment. The plastic lid collection and artwork was the big one in 2025.
IPS Pest Crew - were very involved in keeping our Waionganga Iti river and surrounding school as pest free as they could. Setting and checking traps on a regular basis. Check them out in the video!
We give our students a platform to find their voice and share it with the community.
Te Moa Radio: Our very own on-site radio station! Students learn the "art of the airwaves," from writing catchy jingles and advertising to engaging a live audience as a DJ. Tune in!
Art extension - Finding ways to continue to keep our school an interesting and amazing place to be.
For those who love a mental challenge, we offer high-level competitive pathways.
Chess Club: With a history of "Chess Champs," we practice year-round and compete in Taranaki-wide events and high school-led competitions.
Academic Competitions: We provide a platform for students to test themselves against the best via the Canterbury Exams, Otago Problem Solving, and regional Science and Math Fairs. Whether it’s photography, sketching, or the high-pressure Science & Math Quiz teams, there is a category for every strength.
